Welcome to The ALT Experience Webpage! So, you are interested in becoming an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Japan. Some of the many questions that you may have when you begin to look into the ALT position may include the following: What exactly is an ALT? What do they do? Of course, they teach English, but what kinds of duties do they have from day to day? What exactly is their role in the classroom? What kinds of things do they do outside of the classroom? How do they interact with the teachers and students? Isn't it difficult to teach in Japan if one doesn't speak Japanese? How well do students in Japan speak English? Is it possible to teach English even though one doesn't have a teaching degree? There are quite a few duties that an ALT has, and a limitless number of experiences that he/she will have. There is no way to easily define exactly what an ALT does, but we hope that this site will serve as an aid to give you some insight as to what kinds of things you may experience as an ALT and to decide if it is the right kind of job for you. This site is set up to be an informative introduction to the ALT position as well as act as a point of reference for you after you have come to Japan to start teaching. Please take note that this Website is sponsored by Borderlink, Inc., but everything stated on this Website is not necessarily the policy of the company. This Website is geared more towards the daily ins and outs of the ALT position and giving stories and ideas from actual ALTs with varied experiences working and living in Japan. As such, this site is subject to change at any time, and we hope you will check back often. Additionally, feel free to E-mail us at any time should you want to give your own ideas or feedback.
